Where:
The magical Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel and Spa (Ramada Resort) at Llangybi, Usk. Parts of the hotel date back to Tudor times, when it was originally a hunting lodge visited by both Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour. The hotel has clear signage from the main road, with the driveway crossing a small stream and winding past willowy trees. It's easily accessible from the M4, midway between the two historic towns of Caerleon and Usk. If you're travelling by public transport, the nearest main railway station is at Newport.
How Much?:
The price for a shared room is £445. For those who'd rather not share a room, the full ticket price is £495.
Your Bag Retreat ticket includes a 2 course dinner on Friday and Saturday (weekend) / Tuesday and Wednesday (midweek), a cooked breakfast on Saturday and Sunday (weekend) / Wednesday and Thursday (midweek), a buffet lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (weekend) / Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (midweek), and tea and coffee throughout.
You can arrive any time on Friday/Tuesday, and you can stay until tea time on Sunday/Thursday, making it three full days of sewing!
Although The Bag Retreat is a sew-at-your-own-pace holiday, rather than a taught class or set of workshops, we will be holding skill builder sessions throughout the Retreat* at no extra cost, and I'll also be on hand throughout to help with your bag making, give you extra tips, and tell you as much as you'd like to know about bag making!
Plus, your Retreat ticket also includes a new bag sewing pattern designed by myself, Mrs H, that will not be available on general release until after Retreat.
What your package includes:
- 1 retreat pattern to make
- Skill builder sessions and support from Mrs H*
- 2 nights' accommodation
- Cooked breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday (weekend) / Wednesday and Thursday (midweek)
- A buffet lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (weekend) / Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (midweek)
- 2-course dinners on Friday and Saturday (weekend) / Tuesday and Wednesday (midweek)
- Access to the pop-up Sew Hot shop
- Refreshments during the day
- Use of hotel swimming pool and gym, discounts on spa treatments, and free parking
*Skill builder sessions will be run by myself, Mrs H, so in the super unlikely event that something out of my control (such as breaking both of my arms!) pops up, these will be substituted
What's the schedule?:
You can begin sewing at any time on Friday/Tuesday after 10am and lunch is included on the Friday/Tuesday. We'll set up in the large communal sewing room, browse the pop-up haberdashery shop, enjoy refreshments mid afternoon, and get down to some serious bagineer bonding!
We'll dine in the hotel restaurant in the evening on a 2-course meal (we can arrange for dietary requirements in advance), and then you can either return to your sewing, or unwind in the hotel bar.
Saturday/Wednesday will start with a cooked breakfast before we get back to sewing! With a retreat pattern to sew, you're sure to be busy, or you can bring your own patterns to work on while you're there.
Everyone will be working at their own pace, but if you find you need a little help, don't worry - help is always available! I'll be on hand to answer any questions you might have, to offer tips and advice, and to cheer you on through any tricky bits. We'll also have a few break-out skill builder sessions throughout the Retreat that are an ideal opportunity to take a little break from your project and try something new.
On Saturday/Wednesday evening we'll sit down to yet another yummy 2-course dinner, followed by more sewing or relaxing in the bar.
With Sunday/Thursday being our last day, you are welcome to return to your sewing after checking out of your comfy hotel bedroom. We'll enjoy a Sunday/Wednesday buffet lunch before finally finishing off any last-minute sewing for the weekend/week, packing up and starting our journeys home. If you wish to stay the Sunday/Thursday night, after the Retreat has finished, we can help arrange for your room to be kept for an extra night.
If you'd like to join us, tickets are available on a deposit and balance scheme, with the full balance being invoiced 6 weeks before Retreat.
